Job Summary:

The Liaisoning Officer (EHS) will be responsible for ensuring that all EHS-related activities in greenfield and brownfield projects meet regulatory and corporate standards. This role involves liaising with government authorities, local agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations during the planning, construction, and operational phases of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Liaison with Regulatory Authorities:

  • Act as the main point of contact between the company and local, state, and national regulatory authorities (e.g., environmental bodies, safety regulators).
  • Ensure timely submission of all mandatory environmental clearances, permits, and approvals required for project execution.
  • Coordinate with environmental consultants and legal teams for necessary certifications and compliance.

2. Greenfield & Brownfield Project Support:

  • Assist in environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and risk assessments for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Oversee and ensure the application of safety and environmental guidelines during the project planning phase.
  • Identify potential risks and compliance gaps in existing brownfield operations and propose mitigations.
  • Ensure that all required documentation (e.g., environmental permits, safety certifications) is prepared and submitted to authorities.

3. Compliance Management:

  • Ensure compliance with local and national laws related to air, water, waste management, and workplace safety.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits and inspections to verify that safety protocols and environmental guidelines are followed.
  • Collaborate with project managers and contractors to implement EHS controls, systems, and procedures.

4. Coordination with External Stakeholders:

  • Communicate with local communities, environmental NGOs, and other stakeholders to address concerns and share project developments.
  • Organize stakeholder meetings and workshops for awareness and compliance-related activities.
  • Maintain and manage relationships with regulatory bodies, local officials, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution.

5. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain and manage EHS-related project documentation, including permits, inspection reports, and correspondence.
  • Prepare reports for management on EHS performance, risks, and any legal or regulatory updates.
  • Ensure that all incidents or non-compliance issues are reported, investigated, and corrective actions are implemented.

6. Risk Management:

  • Monitor environmental risks associated with the site and operations, particularly in brownfield settings where legacy issues may exist.
  • Advise on risk mitigation strategies and assist in developing emergency response plans and health and safety measures.

7. Training & Awareness:

  • Conduct EHS awareness sessions for project teams and contractors to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Support EHS training programs to ensure that employees and contractors are well-informed about safety protocols and environmental requirements.

8. Continuous Improvement:

  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the company’s EHS policies, standards, and processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, standards, and regulations related to EHS management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, or similar safety certifications; Environmental clearance-related certifications.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in EHS, with specific experience in greenfield and brownfield projects within the process industry.
  • Proven experience in managing compliance with environmental and safety regulations for industrial or manufacturing projects.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with government agencies, local bodies, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to address EHS concerns promptly.
  • Proficiency in using EHS management software and tools.
